I will admit to you a secret sensation that sometimes surfaces inside me.
There is a certain sense of coldness felt toward the things that I am both busy with and passionate about. Most likely it’s not intentional acrimony or disrespect. Perhaps I feel it simply because people just don’t understand or have never come into close contact with the reality of the lost and unreached.
I was feeling this today, when I suddenly received a message from a trusted, long-time friend who sent me this poem:
Behold how many thousands still are lying,
bound in the darksome prison house of sin,
with none to tell them of the Savior’s dying,
or of the life he died for them to win.Give to thy sons to bear the message glorious;
give of thy wealth to speed them on their way;
pour out thy soul for them in prayer victorious;
and all thy spending Jesus will repay.– Mary Ann Thompson 1834~1923
Dear friend, I am reminded that what I am doing to reach unreached people groups is not in vain. I know that the passion that God has placed within me for those who have never heard the name of Jesus is not just some silly game.
Thank you for remembering me. Thank you for reminding me of my original passion. This simple poem is infused with glorious truth. I take the words to heart. I will walk forward, knowing that you—and many others—are standing behind me in this one passion: to honor God and reach the unreached.
