Missions Pulse 031: Ben Fa’alafi Jones

1024 576 David Joannes

On this episode of Missions Pulse, David Joannes interviews Ben Fa’alafi Jones, a long-term missionary who has experienced incredible breakthrough among Buddhists in Thailand.

Ben utilizes a unique method of contextualization that opens the hearts of his listeners and quickly brings people to faith. But his methods are not without opposition. Many call him “the Buddha guy” because of his radical way of presenting Jesus in the Buddhist world.

Listen as Ben talks about expanding consciousness, reshaping the Gospel message for the listeners to receive, and how an eight-year-old possessed Thai boy taught Ben about power encounters in the heavenlies.

How many non-Christian friends do you have? Ben Fa’alafi Jones says that we have a tendency to hang out with people like us and never have our belief system challenges. That does not allow for growth. What do you think?

Ben Fa’alafi Jones weekly sat under the teachings of elder Buddhist monks in order to fully grasp the nuances of the religion and thus share his faith. He says that’s exactly what Paul did in Athens in Acts 17. He believes that we must take the posture of a learner in order to win people to Christ.

They told him that the Thai couldn’t be reached. Ben Fa’alafi Jones believed otherwise. He says that people everywhere are ready to receive Christ, we just haven’t presented Him in the proper manner for them to receive.

After years of seeking to share the Gospel in the Buddhist context, Ben Fa’alafi Jones watched as an entranced Thai Buddhist boy in underwear told older Buddhists what to do. They listened because of the lord he represented. Suddenly Ben learned about how the Thai respond to power encounters.
