Missions Pulse, Episode 029

1024 576 David Joannes

On this episode of Missions Pulse, David Joannes interviews a good friend: managing director at ActsCo Printing, founder of ActsCo BookHouse, and lifetime missionary.

He describes his childhood growing up in Madagascar, Germany, and later, Hong Kong, China, and Thailand. His missionary upbringing shaped his worldview and thus made him color blind and culturally adjustable. Listen to the wisdom that comes from a lifetime of missionary service.

His early years in Madagascar shaped his worldview and acted as a catalyst for the next 50 years of missionary service. Missionary kids often don’t see color and have no issues with race and ethnicity. MK’s can be powerful world-changers.

David talks about his experience of being detained by gun-toting United Wa State Army child soldiers in Burma (now Myanmar). He worked as a translator for Time Asia, which led the release of the book, The Trouser People by Andrew Marshall.

Every Christian ought to take a short-term mission trip. Why? Because they expose you to the world and thus to the heart of God. “Short-term mission trips are like measles!” he says. “You have to be exposed to catch the compassion of Jesus.”
