It has always been our heart to reach out to the poor and forgotten, and five year old Wa girl Li Yan is a perfect example.
In June, we heard about Li Yan through our co-workers at The Edge center near Myanmar. Since the age of one, Li Yan has had a life-threatening heart problem called Tetralogy of Fallot, an obstruction of blood flow pumping from her heart. If she did not get surgery soon she would have less than four years to live.
Her parents are extremely poor and did not have the finances to pay for the surgery. We began putting the word out, and people generously jumped on board.
We were excited to have most of the money raised, but upon hearing the doctors say there was only a fifty percent chance of survival through the surgery, let alone the long recovery, the family’s heart sunk.
We called friends and intercessors to pray over Li Yan, and shared the gospel thoroughly with her family. Father, mother, grandmother, and even five year old Li Yan accepted Jesus as their personal Savior!
Li Yan’s surgery was not easy. She was the worst case in the whole heart department. But the Lord gave her another chance. She survived the surgery, and is now back home on the long road to recovery.
Please pray that Li Yan’s whole family will continue to follow the Lord, and become a witness to the Wa tribal group who are entrenched in demonic practices and superstitious beliefs.
