The main reason for this live video broadcast was that missionary attrition is a real thing.
Did you know that a staggering amount of missionaries who go to the cross cultural field never make it past their second term? Generally speaking, after a year and a half, people return home from the mission field, tired, jaded and disillusioned.
It’s easy to get burnt out when relational contentions within missions teams occur, cross cultural differences become a headache, and language learning tensions cut their missionary venture short.
That’s why I think this conversation is so applicable to future missionaries, missionaries on the field at present, sending churches and individuals, and for missions agencies.
Watch this enlightening conversation with member care coordinator, Steve Knudtsen, and he shares Practical Ways You & Your Church Can Care For Your Missionaries.
The missionary support network reminds me of the tightrope walker balancing along the rope. When he falls, there’s a safety net for him. We need that net of contacts, whether it’s church mission committees, good friends, prayer groups, or cell groups that have adopted us. Then when the missionary has a challenge or hardship, that network comes alive. Just like the tightrope walker, when he falls, he bounces a little bit, but he’s ok. You don’t want to hit hard without a support network. – Steve Knudtsen
